My journey to Loughborough University London

Having completed my undergraduate at Loughborough University’s East Midlands campus I knew that the reputation at the university was very high, especially in sport. I was drawn by the opportunity to continue to learn from a renowned faculty and the university’s emphasis on practical and sport relevant education.

Career Development

Through my master’s, I’ve developed analytical skills, critical thinking abilities and improved my communication and presentation skills. These skills have equipped me to excel in both academic and professional settings, which have benefitted me in my current career as professional cricketer as well as aligning with my career aspirations away from the cricket pitch.

Scholarships and Financial Support

The application and interview process for me was a little different as the Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) helped me to apply for the Women in Sport Scholarship. The scholarship I received was significant financial support that covered 50% of the tuition fees. The application process involved demonstrating my academic background and how the scholarship would contribute to my academic and career goals. The PCA also helped me with the course application process.

Teaching at Loughborough University London

The shift from undergraduate to postgraduate has been challenging but rewarding as the studies involve a deeper dive into critical analysis on the specific topic. I’ve  been out of education for a few years though.  The course highlight so far is being able to work and share ideas with individuals from all different sports and the differing roles within the sport industry. There are athletes, like myself, on the programme and also professionals from the business side of the sport industry. As I am a remote student, I am studying the course online course but interactions I have had have all been very positive.  The course is flexible enabling me to balance my studies. I am professional cricketer at The Blaze as well as coach cricket part-time.

My advice for future students

Plan ahead by creating a detailed schedule.  This helps to prioritise tasks and set aside dedicated time for both studies, work and extracurricular activities.  Also don’t underestimate the importance of networking, which is crucial for both academic and career development.
