Recommendations

Localised approaches to stigma reduction

Future projects need co-development approaches with local actions.

Prioritise leadership and voice from marginalised groups (i.e. global south, people with disabilities, women).

Increased collaboration between sport, media, and disability rights stakeholders to reduce stigma and promote AT access.

Leverage sport to unite diverse sectors (assistive tech, sport, media, commercial) to challenge established disability norms and find new ways for driving inclusion.

Foster partnership through knowledge exchanges, workshops and conference.

Build an ecosystem around Para sport

Shifting disability stigma requires collaboration with mainstream sport, education systems and local media.

Disability sport must be embedded into broader structure to disrupt traditional narratives.

Next steps

Funding has been granted from the AT2030 programme to develop a second phase to the Para Sport Against Stigma project.

This new phase between 2024-2026 will focus on testing and developing community engagement strategies in preparation for scale.

  • Sharing and exchanging project insights and learnings.
  • Capturing impact in Malawi for Paris 2024.
  • Testing and refining Making Noise for wider use with national and regional Para sport events and LA2028 Paralympic Games in the Southern and East African regions.
  • Leveraging funding to elevate visibility, authentic storytelling to fuel Para Sport development.
