My journey to Loughborough University London

I studied Law at undergraduate level but began working as an account manager at an AdTech firm when I graduated. While I learnt on the job, I often felt like there was a lot I didn’t know. This course is now answering the many questions I had I was drawn to Loughborough University London because of its prestigious reputation in digital technologies and its location at Here East, which is quickly becoming a technological hub. I was also drawn by the opportunity to learn from seasoned academics who regularly undertake research to enhance their knowledge. I particularly like the fact that the London campus is smaller, as I felt this allows for a stronger sense of community and easier access to lecturers.

I really like the block teaching style as it allows me to focus on one thing at a time, and gain a full understanding, before moving on to the next. I enjoyed my last module: Digital Practices for Customer Engagement, which gave me the opportunity to analyse a digital marketing campaign as part of my assessment.

Why I applied to be a student ambassador

I applied to be a Student Ambassador because I am passionate about representing the university and helping prospective students navigate their academic journey. I want to contribute to the campus community and share my positive experiences with others.

The application process

I found the application and interview process to be thorough but rewarding. My favourite part was the group interview session which provided an opportunity to liaise with other prospective ambassadors, and offered a taster of what being a student ambassador would be like during presentations. There is often communication sent out detailing when students can apply for the scheme, usually at the start of the semester, so keep an eye out for emails.  Alternatively you can reach out to the Student Services team for me information.

Skills development

Being a Student Ambassador has helped me develop strong communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to adapt to various situations and engage with diverse audiences effectively. Some of my modules require group work as part of the assessment, so working in teams as a Student Ambassadors has helped with this.  I hope to work in marketing after my studies, and this often means working with other people. The experience gained by working in teams as a student ambassador better equips me for this.

Highlight of being a Student Ambassador

For me, the key highlight is the opportunity to connect with prospective students and their families and make a difference in their decision-making process. Deciding on what university to go to was a very important decision for me, with a lot of factors to consider. I like the opportunity to potentially make this decision easier for others.

Tips for balancing work and study

One time management tip I use is making lists for everything. I prioritise tasks based on urgency and importance, breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps and allocating dedicated time slots for each. For fun, I enjoy trying new restaurants (hotpot restaurants are my current obsession), going to the theatre, and spending time with friends and family, ideally in a new city or country.
